Highly porous Sr-doped TiO2 ceramics maintain compressive strength after grain boundary corrosion

Maintaining sufficient mechanical support during bone healing is an essential property for ceramic scaffolds. However, grain boundary (GB) dissolution may compromise the strength of polycrystalline ceramics in physiological environment. Therefore, we investigated GB formation and its impact on compressive corrosion behavior TiO2 scaffolds doped with calcium strontium. To alter composition densification process, sintering conditions were altered. Prolonged times increased temperature led to improved Ca-doped resulting amorphous GBs caused a significant loss when exposed acidic In contrast, crystalline SrTiO3 phase present Sr-doped scaffolds, which combined rapid cooling significantly strength. Formation crystals maintained over 4 weeks
